Federation to host maiden media shooting workshop, competition

The Nigerian Shooting Federation (NSF) says it has concluded plans to host the maiden Media Shooting Workshop and Competition for sports journalists in Nigeria. The federation’s media Officer, Mr Eche Amos, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Lafia on Wednesday. Amos said the federation had secured accommodation, feeding and kits for over 40 media personnel drawn from radio, television, newspapers and the new media organisations who have indicated interest to participate. He explained that the workshop and competition would hold at the National Shooting Range, Package B of the Abuja National Stadium from Feb. 20 to Feb. 22. He said the first day featuring was for arrival, orientation, theories on the sport and how it should be covered by sports journalists. Amos said the goal of the event is to inculcate shooting sport into the minds of Nigerians starting with sports journalists who would now promote the sport to the wider public for easy acceptance. “It is to fraternise with the media and get them involved in the sport because you need the media in anything you are doing to project the sport. “The first day will be all about how the shooting sport should be reported or covered by sports journalists to the heterogeneous Nigerian and global audience. “Training on uses and applications of Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Laser Run Game, Paint Ball Game and other technically-related games and weapons will also take place,’’ Amos said. He said the second day would feature the practical applications of all over-listed weapons, the commencement and conclusion of the shooting competition to determine the best shooting sport journalists. “Certificate of participation will be issued to all participants at the end of the programme which automatically qualifies them to attend and cover all shooting sport workshops and competitions across the world. “I want to inform you that high-profile dignitaries are expected to grace the grand finale of the event billed for Feb. 22 by 10 a.m. Among them is the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, countries’ Ambassadors and others,’’ Amos said. The media officer thanked the President of the federation; Brig. retired Gen. Lonsdale Adeoye, for working tirelessly to make the event possible, advising participants to take the event seriously so as to be able to adequately project details of the sport to the public. (NAN)
